Eternals, Succession, Thor: Ragnarok... last week was filled with TV shows and films
What's on your watch list?
Hi, friends! 👋🏼
I hope last week was amazing for you.
I’m so excited to share this week’s newsletter with you because I’ll be sharing with you my review of Marvel’s Eternals, my love for the HBO series Succession, and a bunch more in pop culture, music, news, and whatnot.
Let’s get into the newsletter!
📺 this must be the show
The first time I heard about HBO’s drama-comedy series Succession was probably a year ago. I had become hooked with the storyline and started watching it. The thing is, as soon as I was two episodes in, for some reason I stepped away from the show and forgot about it.
But fast forward to this week, I hopped back on the Succession train and when I tell you I’m obsessed with this show — I. am. obsessed.
The plot is golden.
The characters are complex and are every writer’s dream.
The humor is quick-witted.
And though I’m still on season one, this show has me intrigued and all I can ever think and say is: Protect cousin Greg at all costs!
🎬 this must be the movie
Last Wednesday had been four years since we were blessed with one of the MCU’s best films and that was none other than 🥁🥁🥁…
Thor: Ragnarok
I wish I had seen this movie when it came out in theatres (I’m mentally yelling at myself for not seeing this film on the big screen) but alas, Disney+ comes in clutch.
I’m so happy at the fact that Taika Waititi returned to direct Thor: Love and Thunder but also has co-written the new film. All I can say is that the summer of 2022 needs to approach asap!
Moving on to another film that I watched recently… here enters Eternals.
Now, if you’re someone who has watched the film and enjoyed it, I’m sorry to share with you that I don’t share the same sentiment.
I should preface by saying that visually, Eternals is absolutely beautiful and I loved that it took a different direction and was less action-heavy, and went in the direction of storytelling.
But here’s the thing — though it was aiming to be more story-based, I felt like the story went absolutely nowhere.
Maybe it’s the English major in me who studied character and story development for a whole long-ass semester during my undergrad but the script for Eternals fell short.
There were times where I became bored with the movie and felt like I was stuck watching a film trying to find its footing. This sucks because the film was filled with amazing actors who have done other amazing work and when the trailer first came out for this film, I was so excited to see it.
It felt rushed at times and just when you were beginning to know a character, the movie takes a jump and moves on and the storyline is left with a blank space.
Now, let’s talk about the first post-credit scene…
So, I had mentioned in a previous newsletter how there was a rumor going around how Harry Styles was supposedly in the film and would be playing Eros aka Thanos’ brother.
Well, the rumors were right.
Now, watching the scene fold out was something. Here’s the thing — I love Harry Styles and I love his music. I also love how he’s freely expressing himself and rightfully so! However, in the few minutes that he had in Eternals, the acting came was so bland.
I understand that he’s a charming person and that’s who Eros is — he’s a charming dude who just so happened to have a brother who decided that he wanted to erase half of every living thing in the universe.
But in watching him act, all I could say to myself and to my friend who I went to see the movie with was, “It makes no sense.”
Because the movie was going nowhere and then watching this post-credit scene, the only thing that I could compare it to as I left the theater was this:
It’s like seeing a delicious piece of chicken with some yummy side dishes. Everything looks good and smells good. The side dishes are delicious (in this case, the side dishes are the cast and amazing visuals), but when you take a bite of the main dish aka the chicken (basically the storyline), it’s the most unseasoned and bland chicken you have ever had.
Sorry 🤷🏻♀️
Of course, like with any MCU film that I did not like in the beginning, I’ll be watching it again but I think I’ll wait for it to be on Disney+ so I can watch it for free.
Movie score: 5/10
🗞 this must be the news

Flamingo to be Florida’s State Bird?
Florida is looking to replace its current state bird (the northern mockingbird) with a new contender and the flamingo is in the running to take the bird’s spot. Now, this may not be such hard-hitting news but as someone who loves flamingos and a Floridian, I may be a tad bit excited.
Pfizer’s COVID-19 Pill Cuts Rates of Death and Hospitalization
Pfizer shared that they have found its experimental pill for COVID-19 reduces the rates of hospitalization and deaths by 90% in high-risk adults.
🌸 this must be the part where I talk about pop culture
Here I am, once again (Kelly Clarkson reference anyone?) discussing Marvel news with you.
Marvel fans but more specifically Spidey fans were finally blessed with a teaser poster for Spider-Man: No Way Home.
If you need a minute to scream, by all means, take one because I’m right there with you!
Obviously, Doc Ock’s arms are in view but let’s discuss the teasing of sand (Sandman!), lightning (I see you Electro!), and of course the one and only Green Goblin!
I know for a fact this film is going to wreck me and you know what? I’m here for it.
👾 this must be the video game
Big news in the gaming world for those who love Animal Crossing!
The game released its highly anticipated update and Happy Home Paradise DLC last Friday and I can tell you with confidence that the game is amazing. I’ve been playing all weekend and the newly added features and activities have made the game so more fun.
This video was when they introduced the new features in October but take a look and see what the fun is all about!
✨ this must be the end of the newsletter
Thanks so much for taking the time in reading my newsletter! Keep an eye out for the next one and until then, have an amazing week!
